A tired shared drive transformed with new Silver Haze Brett Trio block paving

AWBS Landscaping was approached by two clients in neighbouring homes looking for a shared driveway that is as smart as it is functional. We were tasked with removing the tired tarmac and loose shingle surfacing of the old driveway shared by two properties in Frenchay Road, Oxford, and with replacing it with a modern block paving solution.

Brett Beta Trio block paving

After surveying the area and consulting with the clients, we decided that Brett Trio block paving in Silver Haze was the best fit for the new driveway. Then, over the course of the 15-day project, we removed the tarmac and shingle, laid new foundations and installed the block paving in a random linear pattern inside a single block-running border-course.

Getting the drainage right

The challenge at the Frenchay Road site was to overcome the various level changes between the two drives – but this wasn’t a challenge too far for AWBS Landscaping. One of the properties adjoining the shared driveway had raised kerbing, which edged the flower beds and formed two steps to their front doorway. We not only block paved the driveway and installed new kerbs and steps but overcame the levelling issue by creating compound falls to direct and evacuate the surface water into two existing drainage gullies.

Block paving adds a contemporary new look

As you can see from the project photos, the sophisticated silver-grey Brett Trio block paving – at 60mm thick for lasting wear and with three different sized blocks for a cool, contemporary look – creates a slick straight-edge finish to this shared driveway. We’re sure you’ll agree that this new driveway brings a touch of class to this Oxfordshire residential area.
